Botox and Xeomin are both FDA approved neurotoxin blockers that work by temporarily freezing the muscles being treated, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. They both provide similar outcomes. Xeomin is more concentrated and pure form of Botulinum toxin as it contains no preservative proteins. Botox contains a complex mixture of proteins. We use the purer Xeomin neurotoxin at Summit Aesthetics and Functional Medicine.

There are some considerations to take into account before receiving neurotoxin injections. You should not receive them if you have a pre-existing neuromuscular disorder, are pregnant or breastfeeding, are on a blood thinner, or have a bleeding disorder.

Additionally, while the risks associated with neurotoxin injections are generally low, they can include temporary bruising at the injection site, the risk of ptosis (eye drooping), headache, and infection.

The effects of Botox and Xeomin typically last for about 3-4 months. Some studies have shown that Xeomin may last 1-2 weeks longer than Botox, but individual results can vary. At your appointment, our healthcare provider will evaluate your needs and determine a treatment plan for your desired outcomes.

The amount of Botox or Xeomin needed may vary for each individual and is based on the areas of your face that you want to treat. During your new patient visit, we will discuss your goals and evaluate your facial muscles to determine the appropriate number of units needed for optimal results. On average, 18 units of Xeomin per area treated (Glabella, frontalis, eye smile lines) is typically recommended. However, this may vary depending on your unique facial structure and desired outcome. After your aesthetic treatment, it is important to follow some guidelines to ensure the best results.
